Team commitment brings Jakobsen to the win in Alsace

Today’s stage between Neuf brisach and Dannemarie was the last chance for our riders to show the SEG Racing Academy flag at the Tour de l’Alsace, and what a way to do it.

Shortly into the stage a 5-man breakaway broke clear and the time gap escalated quickly up to five minutes. There was no cooperation in trying to get get the break back, and our guys took the control and responsibility of the bunch as they headed to the second half of the stage. They fully committed to the task, and the gap quickly started to fall before the pack go to the final end of the stage. A fast pace up the last climb of the day prevented any late attacks and our guys perfectly positioned Fabio Jakobsen for the final sprint. With 3 km to go, our Edo Affini launched a strong attack, that got up to 10 seconds, forcing other teams to chase him down and lead the way for the two times U23 Dutch National Champion. Fabio  came into the last km of the race in perfect position for the final bunch sprint and finished all the hard work of his teammates with an amazing victory.

Today’s win marked Fabio’s sixth victory of the season but most importantly it is a victory that was achieved because everyone believed in the plan and did not doubt about it for a second. There’s no better way to wrap our participation at the Tour de l’Alsace than winning this way.

The U23 Dutch Road Race champion highlights the importance of his teammates work in today’s win:

“Today was a team effort, everybody has a big part in today’s victory. After yesterday’s mountainous stage it was difficult to try to control the race, but Vasi (DS for the race) made the plan and we all stack to it. Lucas and Jan were great at controlling the break and Edo and Julius put me in perfect position for the final sprint. Without them wouldn’t had been possible.”
