Q&A with Tom Day
13/01/2021
After a very successful last season in the junior ranks in which he claimed the March Hare Classic as well as the Boucles de l’Oise in convincing style after a solid victory in the time trial, Day is ready to kick off his U23 journey in the Academy colors. The young British rider, sat down for a quick Q&A about his upcoming goals in 2021.
What do you expect of the coming year at the Academy?
I’m really excited to be riding some of those big U23 UCI races. I spent some of 2020 watching the pro peloton riding races such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège and now I’m hoping to be riding some of those great races albeit the U23 version. Another key aspect for me is building relationships with my new teammates so we can understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses. As long as Covid permits this should happen at our training camp in February.
What will be your main goals in 2021?
I’m keen to perform well in stage races with ITT’s where I can continue to develop my time trialing abilities. I have to be realistic about my chances as a first year U23 rider but I’m training hard over the winter with my new coach Ioannis (Tamouridis) where we’re working on some weaknesses and I’m excited to see what I can achieve for the SEG Racing Academy.
What do you want to improve the most in 2021?
I’m sure it’s the same for everyone, but I’ll need to improve my race craft as I didn’t get to ride a huge race program in 2020. The majority of those wins were solo or from within a small breakaway so I’ve been working on my sprinting abilities to ensure I can hold my own in a bunch sprint.
