Two stage wins & the green jersey after a week in Normandie
31/03/2019
We arrived at the last stage of the 2019 Tour de Normandie with two stage wins under our belt as well as Alberto Dainese wearing the green jersey as the leader of the points classification. 150 km separated the riders from Caen, the usual finish-town of the race. The parcour was quite flat which previewed a bunch sprint towards the end.
Four riders jumped away from the peloton and formed the breakaway of the day. Quickly some Academy jersey could be seen in the front of the bunch helping the team of the leader to control the gap. Even though it was a close one in the last lap, it was not possible to bring them back, so the last victory of the race was played in a reduced 4-man sprint.
Despite not being able to sprint for the win today, Alberto Dainese completed a really solid race and proving himself as the strongest sprinter in the race, taking home the green jersey of the points classification. We wrap the race with two stage wins and being in the mix day in day out.
Vasilis Anastopoulos, DS for the race and Performance Manager, looks back to a positive week:
We wanted to go for a bunch sprint but unfortunately, we didn’t manage to close the gap of the break, as we and joker were the only teams working in front, so it’s good that we kept the green jersey finally. All and all we can look back to a very successful race with 2 wins and several podium places!
