Van den Berg: “My goal for 2018? Easy, winning”
“My goal for this season is winning!”. That is Julius van den Berg’s aim for 2018, you can say it louder but you won’t be make it any more clear. With former teammate and friend Fabio Jakobsen moving to Quick-Step, the current U23 Dutch National TT champion will kick off his fourth season with the Academy and will be left as the only rider that has been with the team ever since its inception.

The ambitious 22-year old youngster, who was fourth in the Olympia’s Tour GC, is developing himself into a very complete rider. He has shown already his know-how when riding against the clock, and he also has the capacity to perform in one-week races like Tour de Bretagne (where he ended up in 12th overall last year) and demanding one-day classics such as Paris-Roubaix. “I think that it is very important to be a complete rider and try to keep developing yourself in all the areas. I will work on all aspects on and off the bike, but I see myself developing my climbing skills in the short term” highlights Van den Berg.

Despite a very positive year the talented Dutch rider is willing to set the bar high for 2018. “I want to be really strong so I can make the difference in the finals and win races. I want to be complete and be good at everything, that means that I have to put on a lot of work but I have the willingness and the support to do that!”.
