Belgium’s Stan van Tricht, joined the Academy in early-August as he locked a trainee spot in the team for the last part of the 2019 season. The talented rider who was part of the national Belgian squad in the Tour de l’Avenir and the U23 World Championships looks back to a solid year. “2019 was the year where I was able to compete in some of the hardest races in the category. I learned a lot about preparing for races like Giro valle d’Aosta and Tour de l’Avenir and I was able to win a stage in Olympia’s Tour. So overall, I am pretty happy with how the year went and I motivated for 2020”.
Van Tricht, who while wearing the Academy colors took a stage win in the season finale Olympia’s Tour and powered to third in the overall classification, has a clear recap of the highs and lows of the season. “Of course Olympia’s Tour was a high moment and being able to ride as we did and the chemistry that we had, gives me a lot of confidence for the coming year. My Top 10 rides in Tour of Flanders U23 and Liège-Bastogne-Liège U23 are two really good moments of the season and I hope to repeat them in 2020. However, I still have in mind my crash in the U23 World Championships as it meant that my race was over. A lot of preparation went into that one, but that’s the sport as well”.
Talking already about his goals and ambitions for the coming season, his first complete year with the Academy, the 20-year old Belgian riders is ambitions at the same time that he feels calm and relax. “The spring U23 classics will be my first target of the year. I know that I can do well in Flanders and Liège, so I’ll be aiming to take another step further and ride for the win. After that, I’ll turn my focus onto stage races and GC placements”.
